About Me

Hi. My name is Panagiotis (short Panos). Since 1992, I’ve been working on R&D projects related to digital spaces, smart and intelligent cities, and innovation ecosystems. I hold a Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a PhD in Urban and Spatial Planning, both from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

I’m working in the Information Technologies Institute (ITI/ CERTH) and teaching at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

My current smart city project, IRIS, is a collective of seven cities working to make urban environments better places for citizens and the planet. We test innovative solutions, viable mainstream technologies and explore the products, policies and social engagement methods to make being sustainable an easy choice for everyone.

I teach the “Digital Cities – Intelligent Cities” and “Digital Cities: Applications Design & Development” courses in School of Architecture. Moreover, I teach the “Social Media Applications”, “Web Journalism”, “Human-Computer Interaction” and “Digital Media Authoring” courses in the School of Journalism and Mass Media Studies.

My research focuses on the Design and Development of Smart/Intelligent Cities, Innovation Ecosystems, Web and Mobile Technologies for New Media, Open Data, and Civic Media. My PhD thesis is titled: “Intelligent Cities: Technologies, Architectures and Governance of the Digital Space”.

I post news related to my research interests in the URENIO website and in my Twitter account.
