Hi! 👋 My name is Panagiotis (short Panos). Since 1992, I’ve been working on R&D projects related to digital spaces, smart and intelligent cities, and cyber-physical systems of innovation.

I hold an Integrated Master in Electrical and Computer Engineering and a PhD in Urban and Spatial Planning, both from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

I’m working in the Information Technologies Institute (ITI/ CERTH) and teaching at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.

My current smart city projects, IRIS and POCITYF, bring together cities, industry and citizens to demonstrate solutions and business models that can be scaled up and replicated, and that lead to measurable benefits in energy and resource efficiency, new markets and new jobs. The projects are funded by the European Commission through the Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme.

I teach courses on smart/intelligent cities, web technologies, new media, and social media in the School of Architecture and in the School of Journalism, Media and Communication.

My research focuses on the Design and Development of Smart/Intelligent Cities, Cyber-Physical Systems of Innovation, Web and Mobile Technologies for New Media, Open Data, and Civic Media. My PhD thesis is titled: “Intelligent Cities: Technologies, Architectures and Governance of the Digital Space”.

I post news related to my research interests on the URENIO website and on my Twitter account.
